From yellow to red

Things are turning from yellow to red in North Kansas City, and we’re not talking traffic lights.

The City Council voted 6-2 at its Aug. 26 meeting to replace an aging fire truck with a new truck designed to North Kansas City Fire Department specifications. One of those specifications included a red paint scheme, not yellow.

School district OKs new budget for 2008-2009

Despite a financial pinch, North Kansas City Schools has a budget that holds the line on property taxes.

District Board of Education members approved $252.6 million in spending and a $5.89 per $100 of assessed property valuation tax rate for the 2008-2009 school year during its Aug. 26 meeting.

The tax rate is unchanged from last year, according to Chief Financial Officer Paul Harrell.
