Anticipating higher food costs, Paola USD 368 Board of Education members made a hefty transfer to the food service budget to end the year.

Board members approved a $50,000 transfer to the fund to increase its starting cash balance for the 2008-2009 school year.

After the transfer, the food service budget ended the 2007-2008 school year with $98,553. It’s roughly a $18,500 increase from last year’s opening cushion, Business Manager Jimmy Hay said.

It was one of eight end-of-year transfers school board members approved 5-0 Friday morning. Members Brenda Hallstrom and Tom Vohs did not attend.

The district could have transferred as much as $70,000, but chose to move less cash, Hay said.

In other business, board members:

Approved the administrative, classified and non-classified salaries for 2008-2009, as well as the classified hiring schedule.

Approved the end-of-year bills.

Had a five-minute executive session to discussion negotiations and non-elected personnel.
