The parade, with the theme "Go The Green Mile For A Big Irish Smile," traveled along Johnson Drive through downtown Shawnee. The parade featured dozens of entries from businesses, community groups and organizations, schools and dance groups.
The Knights hosted a corned beef and cabbage dinner and Irish musician Eddie Delahunt provided the entertainment. The 22nd Annual Sister Cities Committee Duck Race took place later in the afternoon, with hundreds of plastic ducks racing down the creek behind Danally’s Bar and Grill, 60th Street and Nieman Road. The ticket holder of the winning duck will get $1,500 cash or $1,500 toward airfare to one of Shawnee’s Sister Cities in Ireland, Belgium or Germany. Other prizes include a private plane ride, gift certificates, an electric scroll saw and more. Prizes were awarded March 16 at Court of Appeals Pub and Grub.
