Holy Cross service for young families A service designed for families with younger children will be from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, at Holy Cross Lutheran Church, 7851 W. 119th St., Overland Park. The service includes a simple version of the Christmas story in place of the sermon, shortened and child-friendly hymns, and a gift for each child attending. Valley View Christmas Eve service
Valley View United Methodist Church, 8412 W. 95th St., Overland Park, will hold Christmas Eve services at 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24. The church organist will play Christmas music at 7:30 p.m. in the sanctuary, followed by the traditional service of Nine Lessons and Carols at 8 p.m. Guests will be brought to the manger with candles, carols, a short sermon and Communion at 11 p.m. For information, visit www.valleyviewumc.org.
Bethany Lutheran offers children’s Christmas service Bethany Lutheran Church’s Overland Park Mission, 9101 Lamar Ave., will hold a children’s Christmas service at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24, followed by carols and candlelight at 7:30 p.m., and festival worship at 9 and 11 p.m. The church also offers festival worship at 10 a.m. Friday, Dec. 25. Church holds Christmas service in De Soto barn Kaw Prairie Community Church will host Christmas Eve services in a De Soto barn at Zimmerman’s Kill Creek Farm, located at the northwest corner of Kansas Highway 10 and Kill Creek Road. The family services – at 11 a.m., and 1, 3 and 5 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 24 – feature an original play titled “Breakdown on Bethlehem Highway.” The services also include Christmas music, a brief message from the church’s pastor, Dan McKnight, and the singing of “Silent Night” by battery-powered candlelight, and live animals. The barn is weather tight and will be pre-warmed but not heated during the service, so guests are encouraged to dress warmly. Hot cider will be served before and after the services. At 10 p.m. Thursday, Kaw Prairie offers worship by candlelight in its new ministry center, 9421 Meadow View Drive, Lenexa. The service features acoustic carols and Holy Communion. Church, business, school provide food baskets Staff at Santa Fe Elementary, 8908 Old Santa Fe Road, Kansas City, Mo., along with Overland Park-based Stallard Technologies Inc. and Covenant Chapel Presbyterian Church in Leawood, are providing 40 food baskets to needy families in the Hickman Mills School District during the holidays.
