As part of a cost-reduction effort, Johnson County Library will no longer mail paper notices for overdue materials, holds and bills to patrons, effective Dec. 31.

The library offers e-mail and phone notification services. It is estimated that elimination of mailed notifications will save the library more than $72,000 annually.

“Eliminating all paper notices can make a huge cost-saving impact,” County Librarian Donna Lauffer said. “There are over 30,000 library card holders signed up to receive paper notifications through the mail that will need to switch to e-mail or telephone. We strongly encourage the use of e-mail notifications because of their promptness and increased detail when compared to the telephone notification.”

To change the form of notification, library users may visit any location or call 495-7521. Olathe Public Library, which shares a database with the Johnson County Library, also will discontinue paper notification by mail.
