Annual Hy-Vee Shootout returns to Avila Dec. 16-19

A total of 13 Sun Country high school basketball teams are slated to take part in the 2009-2010 Hy-Vee Shootout at Avila University.

altThe annual event, which pits Kansas-side high schools against their Missouri counterparts, begins on Wednesday, Dec. 16, and runs through Saturday, Dec. 19, with play tipping off inside the Mabee Fieldhouse.

Shawnee Mission South’s boys will be the first of the teams representating Sun Country to take to the floor.

First-year Raiders coach Brett McFall and his subjects, led by senior point guard and recent Kansas State signee Will Spradling, tip off against Raytown South at 8:30 p.m. on Dec. 16.

A pair of area teams take to the floor for games on Dec. 17.

St. James Academy’s boys take on William Chrisman at 7 p.m.; followed by the St. Thomas Aquinas boys’ matchup with Raytown at 8:30.

In Dec. 18 girls action, Blue Valley North takes on St. Teresa’s Academy at 2:30 p.m.; followed by SM East vs. Lee’s Summit at 4; Bishop Miege vs. Springfield Kickapoo at 5:30; St. Thomas Aquinas vs. Liberty at 7; and SM West vs. O’Hara at 8:30.

The boys play the final day, including Blue Valley Northwest’s game with Ruskin at 10 a.m.; Blue Valley West vs. Liberty at 11:30; SM East vs. Grandview at 1 p.m.; SM Northwest vs. Rockhurst at 7; and Bishop Miege vs. O’Hara at 8:30.
