Jewish Family Services offers Hanukkah help 

To help Jewish individuals and families who are facing difficult times – especially older adults who live alone – Jewish Family Services is looking for people, families and organizations to adopt those in need through its Hanukkah Gift Project.

Jewish Family Services will collect gift items that will be distributed Dec. 8-11 by volunteers. This year Hanukkah begins at sundown on Dec. 11.

Jewish Family Services seeks donations of gift cards to area retail stores, restaurants, grocery stores and gas stations, as well as new toys and other items for Hanukkah packages.Donations can be taken to Jewish Family Services’ office at the Jewish Community Campus, 5801 W. 115th St., Overland Park, until Monday, Nov. 30.

Community members can make monetary donations by mailing or stopping by the office. Checks should be payable to Jewish Family Services Hanukkah Project. For assistance or to adopt a family, call 327-8265.

A wrapping party is from 3:30 to 7:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 7 in the Social Hall at the Jewish Community Campus. To volunteer, call 327-8257.

 

Church presents seminar

Old Mission United Methodist Church, 3519 State Park Road, presents “Prescription Drugs Are Killing Our Youth” from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the Fellowship Hall.

The free seminar focuses on awareness of the problem and strategies for dealing with this issue. Field experts will share their experiences. The Johnson County Sheriff’s Department will bring many of the drugs for identification purposes. In addition, students from various schools will share their perceptions regarding the severity of the problem.

Valley View goes to Bethlehem

Valley View United Methodist Church, 8412 W. 95th St., Overland Park, presents “An Evening In Bethlehem” from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 2, in the Fellowship Hall.
Attendees will hear music of ancient times, taste food common during Jesus’ time, create baskets and other daily wares, and see biblical craftsmen at work.

The following Sunday morning, worship service will include music of former eras and a story that leads toward the birth of a savior.For information, visit valleyviewumc.org.
