• During National Military Month in November, military members and their families can visit CARSTAR, 7235 W. 162nd St., Stilwell, to receive special offers. CARSTAR also is adopting a platoon in Iraq that will receive PX gift card donations. Community members can make a donation and sign a holiday card that will be sent on Dec. 4. For details, call 685-2889.

• The Shawnee Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund will benefit Rebuilding Together Shawnee, Sunflower House, Shawnee Community Services and Kansas Special Olympics team Shawnee Storm. Ornaments made by children in the community for the Mayor’s Christmas Tree can be purchased for $5 each. Order forms are available at www.cityofshawnee.org. The tree will be located in the City Hall lobby, 11000 Johnson Drive, and will be displayed during the Christmas Around Town celebration Saturday, Dec. 5 for the Annual Mayor’s Tree Lighting. • The KC Home Team of Realty Executives of Kansas City is teaming up with Harvesters Community Food Network to sponsor a food and fund drive through Dec. 6. Collection boxes are available in the lobby of Realty Executives of Kansas City, 11401 Ash St., Leawood. Donations received during the drive will help Harvesters feed those in need throughout the area. Needed items include: canned vegetables, canned fruit, boxed meals, canned meats, tuna, peanut butter, jelly, canned soup, hot and cold cereal, soap, deodorant, shampoo, and toilet paper. • The Chris A. Woody Agency of American Family Insurance, 8839 Roe Ave., Prairie Village, is collecting nonperishable food items to benefit the hungry in Kansas City. Items, which will be delivered to Harvesters on Dec. 18, may be dropped off from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Needed items include canned fruit, meat and tuna, vegetables and soup, peanut butter, hot and cold cereal, boxed meals, shampoo, soap, toothpaste, facial and toilet tissue, and deodorant. • All Macy’s department stores have Believe Stations featuring a Believe Meter, letter-writing station and an official Santa Mail letterbox. Through Dec. 24, children can drop off their letters, stamped and addressed to Santa At The North Pole. For each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and up to $1 million to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening illnesses.

• Comfort Plus Shoes, 11715 Roe Ave., Leawood, holds a shoe drive to benefit Soles4Souls, a nonprofit that donates shoes to people in need worldwide. Customers who donate gently worn shoes will receive a 10 percent discount on their purchases through Dec. 24. Monetary donations also will be accepted. For information, visit www.giveshoes.org.

• Burlington Coat Factory, 6451 Quivira Road, Shawnee, sponsors One Warm Coat, a national nonprofit organization that assists in the donation of coats. The third annual One Warm Coat & Warm Hearts Drive runs through Jan. 15. Coats collected will be distributed to families in need by City Union Mission. Coats should be in good condition, with working closures, and no rips or stains. Donors will receive a receipt for tax purposes and a coupon for 10 percent off a purchase through Dec. 24.
