Ramsey, a Lenexa resident since 1986, served as a 1st Ward council member for 14 years. He was first elected in 1995, and was re-elected in 1999, 2003 and 2007, to serve successive four-year terms. “We are saddened by the news of John’s passing,” Mayor Mike Boehm said. “Lenexa has lost a dear friend and a great public servant who cared deeply for our community. Our thoughts and prayers are with John’s family.” Ramsey is survived by his wife, Charlene, and daughters Lesley and Lindsey. The family suggests memorial contributions to the American Cancer Society. Arrangements were made by Porter Funeral Homes & Crematory, 8535 Monrovia St., Lenexa, and funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 17, at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed at www.porterfuneralhome.com. Ramsey received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 1973. He worked as a sales representative for GUND Inc. Ramsey was involved in numerous areas of public service including: past president of Brookwood Homes Association; past president of Christa McAuliffe Elementary PTA; executive board member of Shawnee Mission Area Council; Johnson County Stormwater Advisory Council; board member of the Johnson County Park and Recreation Foundation; Lenexa Chamber of Commerce; lifetime member of the Lenexa Historical Society; Shawnee Mission Education Foundation; Shawnee Mission West High School, Mill Creek and Rising Star elementary PTAs; board member of United Community Services.
