Community-minded citizens with a leadership drive are encouraged to apply for Shawnee Tomorrow, the Shawnee Chamber of Commerce’s 2010 leadership program. The purpose of the program is to develop individuals to assume leadership roles within Shawnee, Johnson County, the state of Kansas and beyond. Since its inception in 1989, nearly 240 people have graduated from the program; many still serve the community today.
Participants will be required to attend eight full-day and one half-day class sessions from January to May. Topics will include education; health care; economic development; community service; and city, county and state government. The chamber will accept 20 to 25 applicants for participation. Tuition, totaling $800, covers the cost for materials, transportation and meals. The deadline for applications is Nov. 19. For more information, visit www.shawneekschamber.com or contact Mary Taylor, vice president, events and programs, or Megan Hardwick, program coordinator, at 631-6545.
