Oak Park Mall, 95th Street and Quivira Road, invites families to take part in EcoKids, a free, interactive summer camp teaching children how to go green from 10 to 11:30 a.m. every Thursday in July in front of Barnes & Noble. This week, participants will learn about water conservation in the community and at home. Families will be provided with a free in-home water audit kit. Children will plant fescue grass in a tin can and measure the amount of water it takes to keep the grass green and growing. There will be supplies to decorate the can like a face or as a colorful planter, but each child should bring a clean metal can, 14 ounces or larger, with the top and label removed. The 14th annual Lenexa Midnight Bike Ride moves to a new course through Shawnee Mission Park. Riders of all ages and abilities start the ride at midnight. The new route is a closed course that takes riders out of city traffic and puts them on wider streets on a continuous loop, so they can choose their distance. Cleveland Chiropractic College, 10850 Lowell Ave., Overland Park, sponsors Highway 2 Help, a fundraiser for Camp Mitiog, a camp for youth who have spina bifida, from 9 a.m. to noon. The expo showcases restored vintage aircraft from World War II, Korea and Vietnam. The 25th Annual Shawnee Mission Triathlon begins at 7 a.m. at Shawnee Mission Park, 7900 Renner Road, Shawnee. The regular course consists of a 0.62-mile swim, followed by an 18-mile bike ride, and a 4.5-mile run in Shawnee Mission Park. The short course consists of a 0.31-mile swim, a 9-mile bike ride, and a 2.4-mile run. Team categories include: men, women, co-ed, family and corporate. The event is limited to 700 entries.
