Restaurants serve up a Taste of Leawood |

Twenty-two dining establishments will serve up samples of their fare during this weekend's Taste of Leawood. The annual food extravaganza, which is the major fundraiser of the Leawood Chamber of Commerce, will be staged from 7 to 10:30 p.m. Saturday, June 13, on the grounds of Leawood City Hall, 4800 Town Center Drive. The event started in 1998 with a progressive-dinner format in which participants traveled from one restaurant to the next. To accommodate the growing number of diners, organizers later moved the event to the City Hall courtyard. It proved to be a good call. The earlier gatherings drew about 100 diners and produced $5,000 to $10,000 in revenue. Last year, 575 people attended and more than $35,000 was raised. "It's a unique event for Leawood. The finest dining opportunities in the whole metropolitan area are located here, and it gives the restaurants a chance to showcase what they offer," Kevin Jeffries, Leawood chamber president, said. In addition to feasting on menu offerings from the various eateries, those attending will receive a souvenir wine glass and a gift bag of items from local businesses. The chamber said the bags also will include vouchers that provide savings of more than $150. To purchase tickets, contact the chamber office at 498-1514 or go to leawoodchamber.org. Tickets also can be obtained at the Town Center Plaza Office, Hereford House Restaurant and the Leawood Hy-Vee grocery store. In addition to food and beverages, musical entertainment will be provided by the band Souled Out.
