Road work starts in Leawood
With the recent opening and acceptance of bids, work soon will get under way on extending Roe Avenue to 143rd Street from its current ending point at 140th Street.
In addition to the extension, Leawood is resurfacing the street between 135th and 140th streets.
Total cost of both projects is about $1.15 million. The low bid for the project, which was about $200,000 below the city's estimate, was submitted by Amino Brother Construction.

Fees collected from the developer of the Worthington subdivision, which is located in the area of the extension, will contribute toward paying for the project.
Half of the cost for the resurfacing work will be financed with money from the county's CARS fund.
The City Council also recently approved awarding bids for the resurfacing of Mission Road from 127th to 135th streets.
Miles Excavating submitted the low bid of $602,802. Half of the cost of this project also will be financed with county CARS money.
And an inter-local agreement with Kansas City was approved for a resurfacing project on State Line Road between 92nd and 103rd streets.
The estimated cost of $275,000 will be divided evenly between the two cities.
