The couple was married in Manito, Ill., by the bride's father, the Rev. David J. Powell, in 1949. Raymond graduated from the University of Illinois that year, and Alberta attended Illinois Weslyan University prior to their marriage. Raymond's career in the agricultural chemical business included management and marketing positions with Amoco Corp., Wycon Chemical Co. and Terra Industries Inc. until his retirement in 1988. He went on to earn his Certified General Appraiser designation as a real estate appraiser and has been affiliated with Dillon & Witt Appraisal & Consulting Services Group in Overland Park for several years. Alberta is a homemaker and an accomplished seamstress. Their family includes three children, their spouses and two grandchildren: Rebecca Hurley and husband Jim; Gail Nichols and husband Jim Nichols; Mark Ifft and wife Michelle and their children, Peter and Andrea. The family will gather in Overland Park this week in honor of the couple.
